Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
When you consider that Sekiro was made by the same people who created Souls, calling it a Souls-like might not be the best compliment. However, it does fit the bill in some ways. When it comes to guns and RPG features, this game goes against the norm. Instead of having a lot of them, players can choose the one they like and use it to beat their enemies.
Shadows Die Twice requires players to learn how to use the katana properly or keep dying. Blocking and timing your hits are important for winning. The main character, who goes by the name of the game, uses an artificial arm to get payback on Genichiro. This game has a story that is different from FromSoftware’s other games.
Mortal Shell
Many companies have put their own spin on Souls-like games, and Mortal Shell is one of them. It has a lot of different ways to play. In this short but sweet Souls-like, players take control of a husk that can control different shells to fight a lot of strong enemies.
The Harden feature makes things pretty simple because players can use it in the middle of a combo if they think their hits are too strong, protecting themselves from extra damage. It’s easily one of the easiest Souls-likes for fans to try out if they’re not sure if they want to get into the genre because of how hard it’s thought to be.
Nioh
Native American warrior game Nioh was one of the first Souls-like games that got good reviews. It was also Team Ninja’s first game since a long time of not making very good games. The player takes control of William, an Irish sailor who has the skills of a famous samurai from the Sengoku era, but with a fantasy twist.
This is a great, tough game where players are told to watch their ki. The difficulty goes up a lot if players don’t learn how to master the combat system and keep track of their ki in a way that lets them launch a barrage of attacks without thinking about running out of this valuable resource.
Lies Of P
The newest Souls-like game, Bloodborne, has been a breath of fresh air for fans of darker and more somber games. These games were clearly influenced by each other. The game has a pretty unique take on Pinocchio’s story. Players control this character in a world where dolls have gone crazy and destroyed everything. People are barely visible because they’ve been forced to hide.
The fighting in the game is pretty good as it is, and the fast-paced nature makes me think of Bloodborne in a lot of ways. An interesting feature of the game is that Pinocchio can either lie or tell the truth at certain times, which changes how the story ends.
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
Big-name companies like EA are using the Souls-like formula to make their own single-player games, which shows that Miyazaki and FromSoftware found a winning formula with Dark Souls. Everyone who likes the Star Wars franchise should play Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It’s one of the best games ever made.
Cal Kestis’s story is pretty entertaining, and the fighting is fun without being too hard, which is what most people expect from games in the Souls-like genre. It’s a shame that the sequel came out on PC in such a bad state; it ruined the image of a series that had a lot of potential.
Stranger Of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
A bold move by Square Enix was to use the gameplay from the Soulsborne games to retell the story of the first game. The silly trailers didn’t help Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin‘s case either. Fans were happily shocked to find that the game was a pretty good action game, even though there were plenty of signs that it would fail before it even came out!
The edginess of the main character and the lack of creativity in the levels can be too much for some players to handle, but those who can get past these problems will find a good action game with a job system that is fun on its own. Geometry Dash World fans will still love what Final Fantasy Origin has to offer, even though it’s not the best game ever.
