I unveil all of the fine 4C natural hair routines that complete my hair regimen! So, let’s get to it.
Before getting to my Long 4C Hair care routines, I want to share how your routines are not your hair regimen. They are what exactly makes up your 4c curly hair regimen.
Wash Day Routines:
Wash day is the most important day for growing healthy 4c hair type. It is the day that your hair is given a clean slate. My wash day routines will mainly consist of pre-shampooing my hair before every wash, co-washing, shampooing, & Deep Conditioning. This isn’t something new for me. What is different from last year is how I will be washing my hair.
Pre-Pooing:
The importance of the pre-poo is faced by many. There are so many benefits. I don’t want to veer too far off-topic, but you can read all about it here: Why You must do Pre-Poo.
Cleansing:
I used to wash my long 4c hair weekly, but I realized that my hair does not require being washed that often because I don’t use products every day because it’s not sweating in my head.
I have barely any build-up on my scalp or hair at the end of a week. Therefore, I’m switching to bi-weekly washing. So, that’s only twice per month. It’s also beneficial for length retention because it is less manipulation.
Some of the types of natural hair products I’ll be using:
DIY Pre-Poo: Amla or Amla Oil or with Distilled Water
Cleanser: Co-washing the 1st wash of the month; shampooing the 2nd wash of the month
Deep conditioning hair + Strengthening
After washing my 4c hair, I will be deep conditioning with a product containing light protein or no protein.
Protective Styling Routine:
Some may not consider protective styling a routine, but I do. It takes consistency to keep this manner for styling your 4A Hair Texture coming for an entire year. That is right. I will do protective styling my hair for 99% of the year, only taking it down to attend a special occasion that doesn’t come around often, especially with the pandemic still in full effect.
Each wash day, my protective styling routine will kick-off, and I’ll only take my hair down 1 to 2 times a week to moisturize it and change the positioning of my secured hair.
Moisture Routine:
My moisture routine is simple. As I mentioned above, most of my moisture is imparted on wash day but maintained. 1 to 2 x a week, I will take my hair down and moisturize my hair using the LOC or LCO method. The weather will determine which method.
Cold weather = which is The LCO method
Warm weather = The LOC method
