Dependency on smart devices is increasing day by day and due to this very fact people are employing them in their homes at a faster rate. To ensure their easy access, people also install hubs like Aeotec Smart Home Hub and that from other brands. But, the major problem arises when the Smart Hub fails to connect to WiFi that finally results in the inability to access the smart devices present in the home network. Is your Smart Hub not connecting to the WiFi of your gateway? If yes, we can help you via this article. This is because we are going to discuss a few practical solutions that if implemented carefully can work. So, read on.
Why is Smart Hub Not Connecting to WiFi?
Can we start by disclosing the reasons causing the connectivity issue? Well, if you are experiencing the connection problem, its major reason might be the humble hac use of a wrong WiFi password. There is also a possibility that you are attempting to connect to an incorrect frequency band. For example, your WiFi hub might be supporting the 2.4 GHz band only and you are making it to share a connection with the 5 GHz band of the gateway you own.
Therefore, before you jump ahead and perform further troubleshooting, it is suggested that you check the WiFi frequency band to which you are connecting your Smart Home Hub. If that’s the correct one, proceed to the password section and check whether you are using the correct value or not. Correct your mistake in case you are committing. Know that the WiFi passwords of gateways are case-sensitive. Thus, you have to be very careful while entering them for the connection process. But, if the connection problem is still there, the reasons mentioned below might have caused it:
- Your Smart Hub is out of the range of the router
- A lot of WiFi interference is present between the paths of communication of your devices
- Technical glitches have affected your router’s ability to connect to a specific device (here, the Smart Hub)
[Troubleshooting] Smart Hub Not Connecting to WiFi
- Place the Smart Hub in the Range of Router: You are suggested to reduce the gap separating both the devices. Know that you can’t expect your devices to communicate properly if they are placed too far from each other. You can make this distance range between 8 to 10 ft. This is to inform you that placing these devices too close is also not recommended. The reason being, if you do that, the WiFi signals of both devices will get clashed and you are likely to witness more problems in the future.
- Remove WiFi Interference: A lot of WiFi interference can also result in the issue that we are trying to address. Therefore, you should try to fix the WiFi interference first. Have a look at the surrounding of your WiFi router or gateway and your Smart Hub. Check if there are microwave ovens, televisions, refrigerators, Bluetooth speakers, baby monitors, etc. present there. If yes, then know that the time to relocate the device has come. Make sure that night cloaked deck your device (especially the gateway) does not sit in an interference zone i.e. away from such devices. Also, ensure that your devices are not placed near objects that contain a large amount of water.
- Restart Your WiFi Gateway: Restarting the gateway can help you get rid of technical glitches that are affecting its ability to work well. Therefore, do it right away. Simply, disconnect the router from its power socket and disconnect it from the modem. Now, you are required to wait for 10-15 minutes. Once done, reconnect the devices and power up the router. Now, check if the router’s WiFi connection with the Smart Hub becomes successful or not. If not, then it is suggested to reboot the Smart Hub too. Be very sure that the power supply to both the devices is non-fluctuating.
The Final Words
This was all what to do when your Smart Hub won’t connect to WiFi of your router or gateway. It is expected that after following the techniques we have mentioned here, you will be able to get the issue resolved like it never existed. If the problem is still there, it is recommended that you disconnect a few devices from the main gateway and try again. Perhaps, it was just a room that needs to be created on the gateway’s network in order to facilitate the connection.
