Your YouTube ad-blocking glory days are over.

If you use an ad blocker to watch YouTube without ads, you may be in for a rude awakening shortly.

Back in June, some YouTube users even when you are going to download youtube videos who used ad blockers began receiving warnings stating that “video playback will be blocked unless YouTube is allowlisted or the ad blocker is disabled.”

However, it appears that the test is now in full swing. A spokesman confirmed to The Verge that the corporation was undertaking “a global effort” to restrict customers from avoiding adverts through third-party programmes.

“The use of ad blockers,” according to the statement, “violates YouTube’s Terms of Service.” We’ve begun a global campaign to encourage viewers who use ad blockers to allow commercials on YouTube or subscribe to YouTube Premium for an ad-free experience.” According to the statement, adverts on the site “support a diverse ecosystem of creators globally and allow billions of people to access their favourite content on YouTube.”

A link in that message takes you to a YouTube help website where you may learn how to enable YouTube adverts in popular ad-blocking programmes like AdBlock Plus and UBlock.

To put this to the test, I went to YouTube and watched a video while using my ad-blocker. That notification did really greet me, with no way to dismiss it. When I disabled the blocker, the video played as usual.

This shift comes at a time when YouTube is implementing a number of changes to the way ads are handled on the site, such as offering longer (but less frequent) ad breaks for television viewers and making it easier for artists to promote their products.
