About Vaping Systems (510 Carts vs. Pods)

If you’re just getting into the world of vaping, there’s a whole lot of detail you’re going to have to sort out.

For instance, you’ll have to get familiar with different types of vape juice and what’s in them (PG and VG and how these affect vapor production), concentrates and distillates, battery power, coil styles, and so on and so forth.

Another thing you’ll have to consider is whether you’re interested in a pod-cased vape device or one that takes cartridges, popularly known as “carts,” such as 510 carts.

Here’s a quick breakdown.

About Vape Pods and Systems
Vape devices that work with pods often feature a rechargeable vape battery and accept pre-filled pods. They are typically small, slim, discrete, and optimized for on-the-go living, affording a hassle-free vaping experience.

These pods can be filled with a variety of different types of vape juice, as well as cannabis oil, wax, or distillates.

Pod-based systems vary widely in configuration as well, and more often than not the pods are not cross-compatible. So, if you choose a pod-based system, you’re marrying yourself to that style of pod.

With that said, the pods that these systems accept are usually designed to be leak-proof, even when charging, which is a bonus to some users.

About 510 Carts
510-threaded vape carts, often referred to simply as 510 carts, are usually also pre-filled with oil, distillates, or concentrates, and are often used with special vape pens.

The 510-thread is a standard configuration, and so vape pens with 510 threads will work with basically any 510 cartridge. (It should be noted, however, that there are other types of vape cartridges, so even if you’re looking at a pre-filled cartridge, that does not automatically make it 510 compatible.)

Like pods, 510-threaded carts are designed for easy portability and use, and are not designed to be refillable. When empty, users simply toss them.

However, the design of 510 carts is not as simplistic as that of most pods, and carts have been known to leak or clog, especially when stored upside-down or when charging.

With that said, since the configuration is basically universal, one of the biggest advantages of high-quality 510 carts is that if you get a pen that accepts them, you can shop through a wider catalog of compatible carts.

Which Should You Choose?
Whether or not a pod-based system or a vape pen that accepts “carts” is right for you is really a matter of personal preference.

If you really want the freedom and flexibility to try new things, the best option is to choose a pen that accepts 510 carts, as the market is flooded with different options.

On the flipside, if you prefer convenience and a (mostly) leak-proof design, consider a pod-based system. You’ll have to stick with that style of pod, but pods are tough to beat for easy storage and use.

Also, when shopping, don’t forget to consider the capacity. All else being equal, the larger the pod or cart is, the longer it will last before you need to replace it.
