9 Heart Attack Symptoms Men Should Know

In Bollywood movies,  a heart attack is shown as fatal for men and something that occurs instantly without a warning. It could not be further than the truth. Medically, there are many symptoms of heart attack which are usually ignored. For example, pain in the back could be ignored as ‘had an active day today’. You still hear of many people succumbing to heart attacks – but if you know the symptoms, then it is easy to get the right treatment at the right time.

  1. Chest Pain

Sudden or severe chest pain is the most common and recognisable symptom of an impending heart attack. The pain is not necessarily a pain – it can feel like pressure, tightness, tightness, fullness or squeezing of the chest. You need to pay attention to the location of the pain – in some cases, the heart attack patient will feel the pain in the upper back, neck, shoulders, jaw or arm (usually the left arm). Remember, the severity of the pain will not lessen with rest. 

 If it is accompanied by shortness of breath, sweating or light headedness, then you cannot delay going to a doctor by even a second. 

  1. Dyspnea (Shortness of Breath)

Shortness of breath is a sign of heart diseases. Is any normal activity that you could do earlier now accompanied by shortness of breath? Even healthy individuals have dyspnea – but if you are either struggling to catch your breath or your breath is short and shallow, it is consider a shortness of breath. If you are exercising, of course, there is going to be shortness of breath. But, if dyspnea is occurring at night or when you have been at rest, then you can consider it as a heart attack symptom. 

  1. Nausea and Vomiting

Many people ignore nausea and vomiting as ‘had outside food today or too much drink last night’. In some cases, they would be right. Even if it is not a heart attack, severe nausea and vomiting, where you are not able to keep anything down, or it occurs even when you are resting, get yourself to your nearest hospital’s emergency services. 

  1. Light-headedness or Dizziness

Light-headednesses is a symptom where you feel weak. It could feel you are ready to pass out and dizziness makes you feel as if the world has turned topsy-turvy. Some other medical issues may be the root cause of your dizziness – it is better to have a doctor do a checkup to get the right diagnoses.

If you are feeling so lightheaded that you feel you may faint, and if accompanied by other symptoms, it is a sign of a heart attack. 

  1. Excessive Sweating

Sweating is the body’s way to releasing toxins and excess salt in the body. However, if you or a loved one is experiencing unexplainable and heavy sweating, go to the nearest medical centre or your doctor immediately.

One major heart attack symptom is sudden and severe sweating. And, if it is accompanied by other symptoms, it could indicate a heart attack. Rush to the emergency immediately. 

  1. Extreme Fatigue

You had a full eight hours of sleep and yet you got up feeling fatigued and tired. It could indicate mental stress or even an uncomfortable bed. But, the fatigue could be accompanied by stress leaving you feeling weak or no ability to concentrate on work you find easy to do. 

If the fatigue is sudden and severe, the doctor you consult will definitely ask you to go to the diagnostic centre and get a heart attack related test or admit you in the hospital immediately depending on the other symptoms you are experiencing. 

Heart diseases in modern times are treatable with medication and in extreme cases with surgery. As you can read, most of the symptoms come on suddenly and with severity.
